Support for parents in the NICU — and after.
You should not have to explain what a desat is, or why rounds went badly, before you can talk about how you are doing. I already know the language.
Why this is different care.
I am board-certified as both a neonatal nurse practitioner and a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I have stood at those bedsides. That means our appointments start where you actually are instead of at the beginning of a medical explanation.
Admissions and the transition home ask parents to be calm, informed, and available while frightened and exhausted. That is not a personal failing to correct — it is a situation to be supported through.
What we work on
- Anxiety, intrusive images, and the hypervigilance that follows you home
- Grief for the pregnancy, birth, or first weeks you expected
- Guilt and the sense that you should be handling it better
- Strain between partners, including different ways of coping
- Sleep, appetite, and getting through the day
- Confidence in bonding — holding, feeding, reading your baby's cues
- Returning to work, and the transition once discharge finally comes
Scope of care
This care is for you — the parents, individually or as a couple. I do not provide medical care, treatment, or medical advice for infants or children; that belongs with your baby's neonatal and pediatric team. What I provide is psychiatric care and psychotherapy for the adults living through it.
Before, during, and after.
Expecting parents
Anxiety during a high-risk pregnancy, or after a previous loss or difficult birth.
During the admission
The weeks of monitors, rounds, and uncertainty, when you are expected to stay calm and informed while frightened and exhausted.
Parents months out
When the crisis has passed and everyone assumes you are fine, but you are not sleeping.
A simple first step toward the right care
Start with a short pre-screening form. I review it myself and let you know if the practice is a good fit. From there, you’ll complete your intake packet, schedule your appointment, and then meet with me for your 75-minute evaluation.
